As a valued member of our healthcare team, you will play a critical role in providing exceptional lactation care to patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Utilizing your expertise in delegation and critical thinking, you will deliver high-quality service through a collaborative approach to patient care.

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate breastfeeding care to achieve optimal patient outcomes for mother-infant dyads.
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation of care.
  • Collaborate with the healthcare team, patients, and families to develop, implement, and evaluate an interdisciplinary plan of care.
  • Identify patient and family educational needs and incorporate them into the plan of care.
  • Consistently demonstrate patient advocacy, protect patient rights, and provide psychological, social, and cultural support.
  • Apply knowledge of growth and development to provide appropriate care for patients.
  • Use and care for breastfeeding equipment and devices appropriately.
  • Complete activities related to the rental or sale of items in the Lactation Retail Center.
  • Maintain professional conduct and adhere to the Standards of Practice and the IBLCE Code of Ethics.
  • Maintain and expand knowledge and skills through continuing education activities.
  • Obtain certification within 2 years of employment and maintain current IBCLC status.
  • Determine and perform within clinical, leadership, and/or education pathways to support evidence-based, quality patient care service and performance improvement.
  • Exhibit clinical expertise in rapidly changing circumstances.
  • Plan strategies to reduce length of stay, turn-around time, resource consumption, and improve patient outcomes.
  • Function as a role-model for clinical practice to coworkers, students, and physicians.
  • Manage resources, establish priorities, and modify the environment to meet patient care needs.
  • Complete manager/director predetermined projects within specified time frames and according to pre-established guidelines.
  • Use problem-solving methods to facilitate resolution to patient and personnel situations.
Requirements

Education: Bachelor's degree preferred. Associate's degree in Nursing or an Allied Health Care Field required.

Experience: One year of maternal-child experience in an acute care setting with lactation skills is required. Three years of experience are preferred.

Licensure/Certification: RN required. IBCLC certification required within the first 12 months of hire.

Other: Must successfully complete orientation and competency requirements. Must obtain and maintain CPR certification.
