Role Summary:
The Senior Nursing Assistant (NA) acts as a skilled caregiver, providing essential support to residents during their scheduled shifts in long-term care settings. This role requires a high level of expertise as a certified nursing assistant, along with the ability to assist fellow staff members as necessary.
Responsibilities include delivering resident-centered nursing care and daily living assistance under the supervision of a registered nurse (RN). The NA is expected to understand and provide age-appropriate care that addresses both the physical and psychological needs of residents, in accordance with their care plans.
As a vital member of the nursing team, the NA is accountable for adhering to infection prevention and control policies, as well as the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). This position often involves supporting other clinical staff while maintaining individual responsibilities and leading problem-solving efforts.
Key duties encompass assisting with basic health care needs, including daily living activities such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and recording vital signs. The NA also provides psychosocial support and personal care, assists with mobility, and facilitates a positive dining experience for residents.
In addition, the NA aids nursing staff with procedures, documents resident interactions and care outcomes, and communicates any changes in residents' conditions to the charge nurse. Responsibilities may also include collecting non-invasive body fluid specimens and ensuring cleanliness in residents' living areas.
Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED (preferred but not mandatory), a minimum age of 16, and two years of clinical or nursing assistant experience in long-term care (preferred). A valid Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification is required, along with completion of annual competency testing and continuing education credits.
