Job Title: Special Education Assistant Teacher School Year Position

Job Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Assistant Teacher to join our Special Education team at Columbus Municipal School District. As an Assistant Teacher, you will play a vital role in supporting students with special needs, providing individualized attention, and helping them achieve their academic and personal goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the lead teacher in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) and providing instruction to students with special needs.
  • Support students with daily living skills, such as personal care, mealtime, and mobility.
  • Help students develop social skills, including communication, problem-solving, and conflict resolution.
  • Assist with classroom management, including supervising students during activities and transitions.
  • Collaborate with the lead teacher and other staff members to develop and implement behavioral support plans.

Requirements:

  • An earned High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Successfully completed at least forty-eight (48) credit semester hours at an institution of higher education, or Earned an Associate's Degree or higher, or Passed all parts of the Mississippi Test: ACT WorkKeys (Reading for Information, Applied Mathematics, and Writing Subtests).
