Basketball Coach

New York Edge is a leading provider of after-school and summer camp programs in New York City public schools. Our mission is to empower students to succeed in school and in life through academics, sports, and wellness programs.

We are seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Basketball Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will have knowledge and experience providing targeted, skill, and age-appropriate instruction, coaching, and mentorship to youth in our after-school camp program.

• Motivate students to be active daily and ensure daily activity lesson plans and projects are structured, age-appropriate, and have clear learning goals based on the provided sports and physical activity guide.
• Maintain communication with the Program Director and Center for Sports and Wellness regarding the calendar of programs, leagues, tournaments, and special events.
• Motivate and encourage students to participate in organization-wide sports activities and establish and enforce safety rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the students for whom they are responsible.
• Instruct participants on the activities' principles, techniques, and safety procedures and show how to use materials and equipment properly.
• Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to students.
• Prepare facilities for group activities and evaluate activities to determine if they are producing the desired results.
• Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' needs and interests and promote and ensure the progressive development of student skills.
• Promote positive character development in all youth and adapt each activity to ensure safe participation in the space provided.

• Must be knowledgeable and skilled in basketball and have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth.
• Must have knowledge and prior experience as a basketball specialist and prior experience teaching and instructing youth preferred.
• Must be able to follow a curriculum and be responsible, reliable, and punctual.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are required.

• High School Diploma or Equivalent required; some college preferred.
• A minimum of one year of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required.
• A minimum of one year of teaching experience is required.
• Must have passion for New York Edge's mission and demonstrated interest in education and youth development.
