Position Overview

A dynamic and driven accounting professional is sought to join the Finance Team at Coghlin Companies Inc.

Reporting directly to the Corporate Controller, the Senior Accountant will play a vital role in daily operations and contribute significantly to the month-end financial closing process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain the accuracy of the general ledger by preparing necessary analyses for financial statement preparation, journal entries, account analysis, and other essential accounting functions.
  • Ensure adherence to accounting policies and procedures that promote efficiency while upholding robust internal controls and compliance with US GAAP.
  • Conduct general ledger account reconciliations and prepare adjusting journal entries, providing clear explanations and resolving discrepancies.
  • Generate precise, comprehensive, and timely reports and analyses upon request.
  • Collaborate with various departments to troubleshoot and resolve issues.
  • Facilitate the timely completion of the month-end close by preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and analyzing account fluctuations.
  • Prepare monthly inventory roll forwards and reconcile inventory subsidiary schedules, including Work in Progress (WIP) to the general ledger.
  • Establish standards for new manufacturing components based on bills of materials and operations, updating standard costs for manufactured and purchased items as necessary.
  • Assist in comparing actual product margins to quotes and conducting related variance analyses.
  • Manage inventory quantity adjustments, inventory discrepancies, and Purchase Price Variance (PPV).
  • Oversee Accounts Payable to resolve vendor issues, perform reconciliations, and review aging schedules, ensuring best practices are followed to enhance processing accuracy and volume.
  • Support and implement internal controls, process improvements, and operational efficiencies as identified by the Corporate Controller and Assistant Corporate Controller.
  • Approach tasks with an analytical mindset to assess the reasonableness of results and ensure they are supported by relevant data.
  • Engage in special projects as assigned.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field is required.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience is preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel with advanced capabilities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to take a hands-on approach.
  • Commitment to professional growth and development within the Finance department.
  • Able to work independently and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
Work Environment

  • Typically operates in an office environment, but may occasionally require duties outside the standard office setting.
Physical Requirements

  • Must possess reliable transportation and the ability to travel to various company locations.
  • Flexibility to work extended hours when necessary.
