Position Overview

The role of the Associate Biologist is integral to our Environmental Services team. Your Responsibilities

  • Oversee and coordinate the biological aspects of various projects and programs.
  • Guide and mentor project teams, field personnel, and project managers involved in renewable energy, oil and gas, and other development initiatives.
  • Participate in fieldwork, including breeding bird surveys, vegetation assessments, wetland evaluations, and monitoring during construction activities.
  • Contribute to the professional growth of junior staff through training and mentorship.
  • Draft and review technical reports and sections of larger environmental assessments.
  • Collaborate with business development teams to prepare responses to Requests for Proposals, defining project scopes and associated costs.
  • Enhance corporate visibility by engaging in professional associations and committees.
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulatory requirements and best practices in wildlife and vegetation assessments.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, preparing effective technical proposals and leading efforts to secure new clients.
  • Achieve a direct project utilization target of 80-85%.
  • Travel may be necessary for project-related activities.

Qualifications

Skills and Experience

  • Strong understanding of Health and Safety policies, with a commitment to leading by example.
  • Excellent technical writing abilities.
  • Effective communication skills for engaging with clients, engineers, scientists, and regulatory agencies.
  • Experience in project management, including budget development and adherence.
  • Aptitude for building strong relationships with clients and understanding their broader business goals.
  • Proficient in MS Office and GIS software.
  • Minimum of 3-4 years of experience in leading technical aspects of small to medium-sized projects.
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License and a good driving record.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER 40 certification is required or must be obtained prior to employment.

Education

A Bachelor's degree in Biology or a related field is required, with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree with 5 years of experience.

Work Environment

This position involves typical office work with extended periods of sitting and computer use, as well as fieldwork that may expose the individual to various weather conditions. The ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs is necessary.
