Position Overview

The Radiology Support Specialist plays a crucial role in the healthcare team by executing various administrative tasks related to patient imaging services. This position involves managing patient x-ray documentation, facilitating patient transport, and ensuring efficient operation within the radiology department.

Key Responsibilities

Document Management: Organizes patient file folders and compiles necessary paperwork.

X-ray Preparation: Prepares x-ray films for physician review.

Filing System Maintenance: Systematically files x-ray films and reports according to established protocols.

Accountability: Maintains a tracking system to ensure accurate accounting of x-ray films.

Film Retrieval: Retrieves x-ray films for physicians and prepares them for mailing as needed.

Loan Management: Collects x-ray films on loan to other departments and ensures they are returned to their designated locations.

Clerical Duties: Performs general office tasks such as answering phones, scheduling appointments, and preparing billing documentation when necessary.

Workspace Organization: Keeps the general filing area orderly and well-maintained.

Patient Transport: Assists in transporting patients and their records to and from various areas for radiology services.

Equipment Handling: Loads and unloads x-ray film cassettes and processed films from the automatic processing unit.

Solution Preparation: May prepare photographic solutions for the processing of exposed x-ray films.

Maintenance Duties: Cleans the automatic processor, x-ray screens, and cassettes according to the maintenance schedule.

Facility Upkeep: Ensures the darkroom, waiting area, and exam rooms are safe, clean, and organized.

Patient Assistance: May assist patients in dressing and preparing for exams or with restroom needs if required.

Support to Technologists: Aids technologists in assisting patients onto and off of the x-ray exam table.

Additional Duties: Performs other related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Physical Requirements: Must possess the physical capability to endure extended periods of standing and walking, as well as lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling weights ranging from 10 to 100 pounds.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Grade 2: Minimum of three months of experience in a hospital environment performing filing or aide responsibilities.
  • Grade 4: At least twelve months of experience in a Radiology Department.
