Job Overview

The Trauma Quality Improvement Specialist collaborates closely with the Trauma Services Manager to oversee and enhance injury prevention and performance initiatives within the healthcare facility. This role may encompass a singular or dual function, contingent upon the trauma level of the facility. The Injury Prevention Specialist is tasked with spearheading educational programs and activities aimed at reducing injuries both within the hospital and the broader community. This position involves partnerships with various coalitions and agencies as mandated by relevant regulatory bodies for Trauma Center verification and designation.

Position Highlights

Shift Details: Part-time, 20 hours per week, flexible business hours, no holiday shifts, occasional Saturdays for events.

Department: Trauma Services

Primary Location: Utah Valley Hospital

Additional Information: A minimum of one year of licensed RN experience in a trauma setting is required.

Key Responsibilities

For the Injury Prevention role, essential duties include:

  • Conducting ongoing analysis and evaluation of injury data in collaboration with the Trauma Program Manager and Trauma Medical Director.
  • Developing targeted strategies and programs based on identified injury patterns.
  • Providing educational resources and information to patients and the community regarding injury prevention.
  • Collaborating with hospital departments and community organizations to promote injury prevention initiatives.

For the Performance Improvement role, essential duties include:

  • Performing chart reviews utilizing clinical expertise to assess and interpret data for evaluating the quality of care and adherence to established standards.
  • Identifying and validating issues, followed by thorough analysis and resolution to enhance clinical outcomes.
  • Preparing case review summaries for discussions with the Trauma Program Manager and Medical Director.
  • Participating in trauma committees and assisting with follow-up actions identified during meetings.
  • Entering performance improvement data into the trauma database.

Minimum Qualifications

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Utah is required. RNs must obtain a BSN within three years of hire or promotion. Additionally, candidates must hold current Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certifications, along with any other unit-specific certifications as required. A minimum of one year of experience in a trauma care setting is also necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited institution is preferred. Candidates with TNCC certification (to be obtained within one year of hire) and those with supervisory or leadership experience will be given preference. Proficiency in office computer programs, including spreadsheets, is also advantageous. A minimum of three years of experience in a trauma care setting is preferred.

Physical Requirements

Employees must possess the ability to see and read information, labels, and monitors, as well as assess patient needs. Frequent interactions with patients and healthcare providers require effective verbal communication and the ability to respond quickly and accurately, especially in emergency situations. Manual dexterity is necessary for operating complex equipment and frequent computer use.
