Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive media relations strategy to promote the Illinois Soybean Association's mission and goals.
  • Prepare and distribute press releases, media advisories, and other written materials to promote the organization's initiatives and events.
  • Manage and coordinate media interviews, including scheduling, preparing spokespeople, and ensuring timely follow-up.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key media contacts, including reporters, editors, and producers.
  • Provide content support for the Illinois Soybean Association's in-house publication, Illinois Field & Bean, and other communications projects.
  • Assist with the development and execution of internal and external communications campaigns.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, English/Writing, communication, or marketing.
  • At least 8-10 years of relevant work experience, preferably in a communications or public relations role.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling messages and stories.
  • Experience with media relations, including press releases, media advisories, and interview preparation.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with Cision, Mailchimp, WordPress, Box, Slack, and/or similar applications.
  • Strong relationship-building skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including media contacts, colleagues, and senior leadership.
Work Environment

This position requires the candidate to be based in Bloomington, IL. Applicants must reside in Central Illinois or be willing to relocate to the area. Candidates outside of this geographical area will not be considered unless they plan to relocate.

The successful candidate will be required to travel offsite for meetings and events, and may be required to work outside of regular business hours to meet deadlines or respond to media inquiries.
