About the Role:

James Madison University, a Division I Member of the NCAA and Sun Belt Conference, is seeking an experienced Athletics Communications Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our communications staff, you will be responsible for assisting with the coverage of 18 Division I sports, with a focus on digital and social media.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the development and implementation of digital content strategies for assigned sports
  • Collaborate with communications and external relations staff on content development and promotion
  • Responsibility for game notes, game programs, website updates, and social media content for assigned sports
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant institutional, Sun Belt, and NCAA rules

Requirements:

  • Experience in an intercollegiate or professional sports team's communications office, or student assistant/internship experience
  • Good writing and editing ability, with knowledge of AP writing style
  • Desktop publishing experience, with knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop
  • Knowledge of various web software programs, game operations, and statistical programs
  • Highly motivated, energetic, and able to manage a work schedule that includes some weekend work

Working Conditions:

This is a part-time wage position working up to an average of 29 hours per week over the course of a calendar year, with no benefits. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background check.

Additional Information:

  • Professional writing samples are required, including 2-3 relevant writing samples from previous work in athletics
  • The position is renewable for an additional 12 months by mutual decision
