Position Summary & Responsibilities

This position delivers Cognitive Based Intervention (CBI) risk reduction programs and interventions, as well as other programming as assigned at Lansing Correctional Facility.

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

This position is responsible for delivering Cognitive Based Intervention (CBI) skills-building classes at LCF, collaborating with others to broker co-facilitators and facilitators, including KDOC staff, contract staff, volunteers, and community partners. The core classes to be taught are Core-Adult, Career Readiness, Improving Family Relationships (IFR), Sex Offender (SOP), and Substance Use-Adult (SUA) programs, each as assigned. This position is also responsible for building Advanced Practice (AP) groups of completers and conducting robust effective AP groups. Other classes will be this position's responsibility, including classes of varying lengths/doses, addressing any area of risk/need, as identified by the facility, and directed by the supervisor. Additionally, this position works with the Reentry team and facility leadership and unit team and partners to ensure that programs are delivered at a time that ensures residents are able to participate in other opportunities, including private industry and other employment opportunities.

This position schedules, monitors, and is responsible for all administrative aspects of the classes, including working with the unit team for a referral process; reviewing lists of offenders to identify potential participants; making placement decisions in classes, ensuring full use of all available slots; addressing readiness and responsivity; monitoring for quality/fidelity (and assisting colleagues at LCF and in other facilities/parole offices in monitoring their classes for quality/fidelity, as directed by the supervisor); tracking how many offenders start and finish; monitoring progress to reduce failures; ensuring program tracking codes are accurately completed; ensuring the unit team, parole, and mentors have feedback about class progress as appropriate; making necessary Athena entries; and any other aspect of the administration of the classes, as directed by the supervisor. This position will also participate in all assigned fidelity and quality assurance strategies, interventions, and activities, as assigned.

This position assists in case management/case planning by participating in multidisciplinary team meetings to set specific next steps and goals for residents exiting programs in line with areas of strength, risk/needs, and forward progress. Building on skills taught in the groups through 1:1 sessions, interacting with the unit team and multidisciplinary teams, all to ensure that residents have the opportunity to continue practicing skills; that their behavior is the subject of effective responses; that motivation is addressed on an ongoing basis to continue building dose; and to ensure a warm transition and follow-up and aftercare.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Six months' experience in planning, implementing, and monitoring activities relevant to the agency's programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in corrections/criminal justice or social services field, or equivalent experience.

One-year experience working with adult offenders.

One-year experience in training/skills development, preferably in assisting or co-facilitating in the delivering of CBI programs.

Knowledge of principles of evidence-based programs and effective response to behavior.

Engaging communication style.

Effective co-facilitator.

Post-Offer, Pre-employment Requirements: Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license. Must pass a criminal history records check.
