Job Overview

The Healthcare Nutrition Assistant plays a crucial role in managing various specialized tasks associated with the receipt, understanding, and execution of patient dietary requests within hospital and long-term care environments. This position serves as a vital link between patients, the Food and Nutrition Services Department, and Nursing Services.

Key Responsibilities
  • Facilitates the delivery and collection of patient meal trays during service hours. Ensures timely delivery of snacks and nourishments as prescribed by healthcare professionals. Engages with patients to introduce the offerings of the Food and Nutrition Services Department.
  • May gather dietary preferences and aversions from patients and their families.
  • Effectively communicates all patient dietary requirements to the relevant sections of the Food and Nutrition Services Department.
  • Guarantees that nutrition care orders are fulfilled by providing suitable menu options to patients.
  • Adheres to sanitation protocols by following designated cleaning schedules and completing additional sanitation tasks as directed by the Supervisor or Relief Supervisor.
  • Conducts inventory checks and replenishes supplies in pantries, refrigerators, and freezers in assigned units.
  • Maintains temperature records for unit refrigeration and freezing units.
  • Possesses knowledge of therapeutic diets according to established guidelines and seeks guidance from Supervisors or Dietitians when discrepancies arise.
  • Supports clinical staff in ensuring that all patients' fundamental nutritional care needs are addressed.

Qualifications
  • Proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing in English is required. Bilingual skills are advantageous but not mandatory.
This position may involve physical demands such as lifting, bending, pushing, pulling, and prolonged periods of standing or walking. Additionally, uniforms and/or Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required.
