About Syngenta Crop Protection

About this Role
We are seeking an intern to join our Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) team in Greensboro, NC. As an intern, you will work alongside experienced professionals, be mentored by our North America Regional HSE team, and contribute to real projects finding real solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local HSE regulations and Syngenta policies and standards in a complex site office, laboratory, and pilot plant operations.
- Assist with training the site spill team and develop, implement, maintain, and improve a comprehensive HSE program and related management systems for the site.
- Assist with risk assessment of projects impacting HSE, including management of change, construction, and other initiatives.
- Provide HSE-related guidance and training for all employees, 3rd party contract employees, trade contractors, and visitors, and drive HSE awareness techniques.
- Assist with site environmental program, including hazardous waste, air permit, and industrial hygiene monitoring.
- Develop, improve, and maintain site HSE Intranet information, databases, and pertinent records.
- Participate in site incident investigations and assist with HSE communications regarding incident learnings.
- Participate in cross-functional teams, partner with peers, and support all HSE network-wide initiatives.
- Maintain a meaningful presence onsite through site walk-throughs, inspections, and other HSE activities.
- Assist Regional HSE with project implementation and site audits.
- Assist with operational aspects of the site security program.
Qualifications
- Junior class standing at an ABET-accredited university in the area of Health, Safety, and Environment or similar technical degree.
- A minimum of one but preferred two co-op assignments in HSE during college career.
- Knowledge of HSE regulations, including OSHA, NFPA, EPA, and US DOT.
- Ability to read and interpret HSE legislation and regulations, as applicable.
- Ability to organize and learn to conduct a site HSE audit, conduct risk assessment of HSE issues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in construction safety.
- Experience in laboratory or research setting.
- Ability to identify potential hazards and safety issues throughout the site and during design reviews.
- Data analytics experience to assist with HSE trends.
- Ability to work with a variety of people and develop a strong HSE culture.
- Ability to create and communicate through networks, newsletters, safety bulletins, and the intranet.
- Ability to conduct thorough HSE audits and inspections.
- Ability to communicate HSE information throughout the organization to senior managers.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to waist.
- Ability to carry 50 pounds for a short distance.
- Must be able to walk long distances and stand on their feet for long periods of time.
- Able to climb multiple flights of stairs.
- Must be able to climb ladders and work at heights.
- Must pass a medical clearance to wear a respirator.
- Must pass a physical for a hazardous materials worker.
