Role Summary
The Financial Systems Analyst (FSA) plays a critical role in evaluating economic, financial, and structural data within the organization. This position involves the formulation of requirements for automated data collection and analysis tools, overseeing their implementation, and ensuring the application of rigorous testing and quality assurance methodologies. The FSA serves as a technical authority on all information processed by the unit and possesses extensive knowledge of statistical functions within the division and the broader organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts primary and secondary financial and structural data analysis for data flows and other designated internal initiatives. Addresses inquiries related to reporting series, structural information, and data collection issues; responds to a diverse range of client questions concerning regulation, automation, data transactions, and structural processing. Organizes planning sessions for new or modified series.
- Creates advanced analytical methodologies, which may involve constructing and validating statistical models for cross-sectional and time-series data analysis, assessing the impact of banking structure modifications on economic and financial data, and enhancing the quality of structural data. Establishes and reviews standards for data interchange within the Federal Reserve System.
- Formulates business rules and report/application formats for developers to utilize in creating automated systems that support analytical tasks and the dissemination of public information. Responsibilities may include programming, database architecture, and conceptual design.
- Provides guidance and leadership to fellow analysts and technicians on automation, problem resolution, and data analysis. Drafts and evaluates technical memoranda regarding series processing and independently formulates technical requirements.
- Researches, organizes, and disseminates documentation of systems and reporting requirements for the benefit of Board, Reserve Bank personnel, and reporting institutions. This may encompass communication standards, technical memoranda, systems testing plans, implementation timelines, requirements statements, and other pertinent information supporting application processing systems.
- Ensures adherence to all administrative and internal series processing deadlines for the unit, including the preparation of status reports, evaluation of Reserve Bank and regulatory agency performance, and coordination of periodic review processes.
- Represents the unit, branch, or division in client discussions, makes informed decisions regarding complex data inquiries, and participates in task forces and committees, both internally and externally.
- Develops a schedule of unit work activities to ensure timely and accurate completion of reports and administrative obligations. Conducts regular reviews of editing and analysis procedures with unit staff and communicates the findings to management.

Strong analytical skills and proficient oral and written communication abilities typically acquired through a Bachelor's Degree in business, economics, finance, mathematics, computer science, information technology, or equivalent work experience. Intermediate knowledge of financial/accounting principles related to System reports and the processing systems that support statistical functions, generally obtained through a minimum of four years of relevant work experience. A thorough understanding of data processing challenges, including a solid grasp of computer operations (distributed and web environments), telecommunications concepts, and familiarity with software packages such as SAS, QMF/SQL, and Microsoft Excel. Intermediate understanding of analytical techniques for financial data analysis, including ratio analysis, peer analysis, trend analysis, and statistical modeling. Develops professional skills and maintains awareness of evolving information processing technologies and financial industry trends through professional literature and external contacts. Conducts research in information processing relevant to division, business line, or Board needs and communicates the results effectively.

A thorough understanding of data processing challenges, including a solid grasp of computer operations (mainframe, distributed, and web environments), telecommunications concepts, and familiarity with software packages such as SAS, QMF/SQL, and Microsoft Excel. Advanced understanding of analytical techniques for financial data analysis, including ratio analysis, peer analysis, trend analysis, and statistical modeling. Develops professional skills and stays informed about evolving information processing technologies and financial industry trends through professional literature and external contacts, applying concepts accordingly. Conducts research in information processing relevant to division, business line, or Board needs and communicates the results effectively.
This position is hybrid, requiring a combination of telework and in-office presence.
