Currently, we have 940 megawatts under construction and are actively expanding our portfolio, which includes over 12,000 megawatts of solar photovoltaic (PV) energy and 7,000 megawatts of energy storage solutions.
Position Summary
We are in search of a seasoned and driven Civil Engineering Specialist. The ideal candidate will possess over 7 years of extensive experience in civil engineering, land development, and site construction. While experience in Utility Scale PV Solar Plants is advantageous, it is not mandatory.
The successful candidate will demonstrate proficiency in advanced stormwater management techniques, possess a comprehensive understanding of land survey requirements, and exhibit a high level of expertise in AutoCAD Civil 3D for earthworks analysis.
This role will involve supporting Urban Grid teams throughout the project lifecycle, from initial development through construction and final closeout. Responsibilities will include complex earthworks analysis and providing RFI support during construction phases. The selected individual will act as a civil subject matter expert (SME).
The candidate must be a self-motivated team player with exceptional technical skills and CAD capabilities, alongside a broad spectrum of land development knowledge to effectively collaborate with internal departments, external consultants, and EPC contractors.
Key Responsibilities
1. Review and enforce stormwater and erosion control requirements on Urban Grid projects from preliminary design through detailed design, ensuring compliance with Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) while optimizing site usability for solar development.
2. Conduct earthworks analysis and value engineering for projects at various stages to inform design choices, racking structure selection, and civil grading strategies.
3. Analyze geotechnical data to identify potential risks related to shallow bedrock, steep slopes, wetlands, stormwater features, and setback regulations.
4. Develop technical documentation to support real estate leases, construction coordination, landowner agreements, and other project-related efforts.
5. Collaborate with civil engineering consultants to create civil construction drawings and design packages for permitting and EPC bidding processes for large-scale solar power plants.
6. Assist in generating quantity takeoffs, estimates, and bid packages for EPC solicitations, actively participating in the bid review and award process.
7. Work alongside civil consultants and EPC partners to ensure adherence to contractual obligations, AHJ requirements, industry standards, and applicable laws.
8. Review detailed civil construction drawings to facilitate clear communication with internal teams, external consultants, permitting agencies, contractors, and utilities.
9. Provide recommendations and mitigation strategies to address risks, cost implications, and anticipated construction challenges during the design phase.
10. Evaluate third-party proposals for civil, survey, and geotechnical services, making recommendations to the Development Project Manager.
11. Oversee early civil design and material take-offs from third parties, coordinating with internal departments for project cost estimation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field with relevant experience.
- Professional Engineer license is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of civil engineering experience; 2+ years in renewable energy projects is preferred.
- Proven ability to lead project execution and resolve issues collaboratively.
- Self-motivated with the capacity to work independently and in team settings with minimal supervision.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of coordinating across multiple disciplines and organizations.
- Proficient in Google Earth, KMZ files, and Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong skills in AutoCAD Civil 3D, including surface analysis and manipulation.
