Sleep Study Technician

Position Overview:
This role involves conducting diagnostic sleep studies aimed at assessing and treating patients with sleep-related disorders.



Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
    • Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) Certification or Sleep Disorder Specialty (SDS) Certification is required.
    • Must possess a valid Respiratory License.
    • Certification in Basic Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education, Certification, and/or Licensure:
    • ACLS Certification should be acquired within 90 days of employment.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Conduct polysomnography on both outpatients and inpatients following established protocols without direct supervision.
  • Administer basic and advanced therapeutic procedures for patients across all age groups at the Sleep Evaluation Center and within hospital settings, including critical care areas.
  • Ensure proper documentation flow and storage in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Complete all patient testing procedures and associated documentation within designated time frames.
  • Submit accurate and timely patient charges.
  • Score sleep studies adhering to established time and quality standards and practice guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of equipment, procedure rooms, and work areas within the Sleep Evaluation Center.
  • Engage in educational and in-service opportunities to enhance the quality of patient care and understanding of the Sleep Evaluation Center's services.
  • Pursue continuing education opportunities and maintain CEUs as required by registry and licensure.
  • Provide in-service training on sleep procedures and equipment operation to medical professionals and the community.
  • Demonstrate respect and dignity towards all patients, family members, visitors, and hospital staff, adhering to organizational standards of behavior.
  • Utilize respiratory knowledge for patient care as appropriate.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to lift, push, or pull a minimum of 40 pounds.
  • Capability to sit or stand for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work during unscheduled hours.


Working Environment:

  • Conduct sleep studies in accordance with policy and procedure guidelines within the Sleep Evaluation Center and critical care areas of the hospital.


Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to interact appropriately with physicians, staff, and patients.

  • Scheduled Weekly Hours: 36
  • Shift: To be determined
  • Exempt/Non-Exempt: Non-Exempt
