Respiratory Therapist

Job Summary:

The Respiratory Therapist is responsible for administering respiratory therapy procedures to examine, diagnose, and treat patients with respiratory and pulmonary disorders. This role involves assessing patient condition, consulting with physicians to determine appropriate treatment plans, and monitoring patient progress following procedures to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment.

Responsibilities:

• Administers physician-prescribed respiratory therapy, including oxygen, respiratory medication, PFTs, ABGs, and mechanical ventilation.
• Performs evaluation procedures, both invasive and non-invasive, to determine respiratory care needs and makes appropriate recommendations based on department protocols.
• Monitors patients requiring mechanical ventilation, including clinical assessment, routine rounds, troubleshooting, weaning, airway care, and diagnostic testing to ensure the safety and appropriate care of patients.
• Collects and analyzes sputum, blood, and breath specimens for diagnosis and measures patients' lung capacity to determine if there are any impairments.
• Offers diagnostic results and treatment suggestions based on the analysis of the patient and communicates with other healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care and coordination of services.
• Ensures smooth operation of the PFT and ABG laboratory or other duties as assigned by the supervisor or manager.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Professional competency in the science of Respiratory Care commensurate with the NBRC credential.

Required Experience, Education, Certification(s), License(s):

• Graduate of a AMA-approved School of Respiratory Care.
• Licensed by the State Board of Medicine or State Board of Osteopathic Medicine.
• Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support/BLS.
• Associate's/2-year degree required.
• Registered by the National Board of Respiratory Care (if Certified or not registered by the NBRC, must obtain NBRC registration within 2 years of hire).

Preferred Experience, Education, Degree, Certification(s), License(s):

• ACLS and/or NALS preferred.
• Prior experience preferred.

Covid Vaccination is a requirement for employment at Jefferson for employees working at Jefferson's clinical entities or at the University. The selected candidate will not be allowed to commence working until all three (3) are completed satisfactorily.
