Position Overview

The Visitor Experience Coordinator plays a vital role at The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens, serving as the primary point of contact for guests. This position is responsible for managing all financial transactions during shifts, including admissions, memberships, and various attractions. The Coordinator will also oversee the operation of attractions within the park while ensuring compliance with safety regulations. A strong comfort level with cash handling and guest interaction is essential.

Key Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate proficiency in cash register operations and maintain excellent cash management practices.
  • Effectively sell and promote tickets for admissions, attractions, and memberships.
  • Foster positive relationships with guests, team members, and management.
  • Provide courteous and effective service to the public, representing the institution with professionalism.
  • Address minor guest concerns with a focus on guest satisfaction.
  • Support daily operations of the membership office, including issuing new and renewal membership cards and selling additional guest passes.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures established by The Living Desert.
  • Assist with staffing coverage during lunch breaks, PTO, sick days, and special events.
  • Contribute to a safe and productive environment for both visitors and staff.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and other departments, in line with The Living Desert Employee Handbook.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
  • Promote desert conservation by minimizing waste and inspiring guests and team members to engage in conservation efforts.

Education and Experience

A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Proficiency in computer use is necessary. A minimum of one year of experience in cash handling, familiarity with point-of-sale systems, and experience in a busy office environment is advantageous. Background in sales and customer service is also beneficial. A valid driver's license and good driving skills are required for vehicle operations.

Work Conditions

Physical demands include standing, walking, bending, twisting, climbing, and lifting up to 50 lbs. The role may require working in varying weather conditions, both indoors and outdoors. Frequent exposure to extreme temperatures is expected.

Availability

Weekend, holiday, and evening shifts are required, particularly during special events and fundraising activities.
