We are seeking a skilled Laboratory Support Technician to join our team at the University of Maryland Medical System. As a Laboratory Support Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our laboratory services.
Key Responsibilities- Collect blood samples from patients using venipunctures or finger or heel sticks, following established procedures.
- Utilize a computerized system for logging and tracking specimen collection and patient information, ensuring accurate and complete order entry.
- Properly identify and label specimens for processing, delivery, and storage, communicating effectively with laboratory and medical staff as needed.
- Operate simple medical laboratory equipment, such as a centrifuge and microscope, and perform inventory and ordering of supplies.
- Sort laboratory reports and distribute them to appropriate mailboxes, ensuring timely and accurate communication.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required, with completion of an accredited program in phlebotomy preferred.
- Certification as a registered phlebotomist by a nationally recognized Phlebotomy Society, such as the American Society of Phlebotomy Technicians, is preferred.
- Minimum of one year of work experience as a phlebotomist, with experience in a healthcare environment preferred.
