Job Overview

The Low Income Housing Institute is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Shelter Operations Coordinator. This position is crucial in ensuring a secure and supportive environment for all shelter participants.

Reporting Structure: This role reports directly to the Shelter Operations Manager.

Work Schedule: Full-time, with shifts from Tuesday to Saturday during the overnight hours.

Compensation: Competitive hourly wage, commensurate with experience.

Position Classification: This is a non-exempt position and is part of a unionized workforce.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and welcoming atmosphere within the shelter.
  • Assist participants with administrative tasks related to their stay, including monitoring entries and exits.
  • Engage with the local community to provide information and manage donations.
  • Ensure compliance with shelter rules and policies while providing support to participants.
  • Oversee safety and cleanliness within the facility, contributing to a 24/7 staffing team.
  • Perform light maintenance and cleaning duties in shared spaces.
  • Organize shelter meetings and delegate tasks to participants.
  • Prepare vacant units for new arrivals, coordinating with vendors as necessary.
  • Address participant inquiries and concerns effectively.
  • Communicate regularly with the Case Manager and Shelter Operations Manager regarding participant welfare and operational issues.
  • Respond to emergencies and maintain a readiness to assist as needed.
  • Lift and carry items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience in maintenance, customer service, or management roles.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with an understanding of diverse cultural backgrounds and issues related to low-income housing.
  • Proven experience working with low-income populations.
  • Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Successful completion of background checks and drug screening is required.
