Position Overview

The Coronado Unified School District is seeking a Guest Arts Educator to deliver engaging arts lessons to students in grades Kindergarten through 5th grade. This role involves approximately 3 days of teaching each month, complemented by around 6 hours of preparatory and meeting time monthly. This is an independent contractor position.

Responsibilities

The selected contractor will:

  • Conduct two lessons per day, each lasting about 2.5 hours.
  • Provide a variety of artistic experiences, including hands-on activities, movement, discussions, and writing, tailored to be age-appropriate.
  • Collaborate with a certificated substitute teacher present in the classroom to ensure effective student engagement and behavior management.
  • Participate in a monthly group Zoom meeting to co-plan lesson content, facilitated by the Director of Special Programs.
Qualifications

Required: Professional education and/or experience in an art form.

Preferred: Experience in developing curriculum and engaging with elementary-aged students.

Contract Details

This position requires availability for 2 to 4 days per month over an approximate duration of 8 months. Compensation will be structured as follows:

  • For an artist assigned to 3 days of teaching per month: 6 hours of paid time including a 45-minute to 1-hour lunch plus 6 hours of preparation (2 hours of prep for each day of lessons).
  • Requested instructional supplies will be procured by the school upon approval.
Interview Process
  1. Initial screening of cover letter, resume, and at least 2 letters of recommendation.
  2. Zoom screening interview.
  3. Finalists will meet with the Principal and Director of Special Programs for final approval.
