Position Summary:
The Referral Testing Services department at UNC McLendon Laboratories is looking for qualified candidates for the Medical Technologist role. Key responsibilities include the preparation and coordination of laboratory specimens for external testing. The position will provide on-the-job training covering various referral laboratory systems, medical laboratory billing, and external result reporting. Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role.
Work Schedule: 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM with a weekend rotation of one Saturday every four weeks.
Key Responsibilities:- Diagnose issues related to equipment, test outcomes, specimens, and workflow.
- Participate in teams or undertake special projects as needed.
- Provide instruction to Clinical Laboratory Science students and Pathology residents, as well as training for new staff.
- Conduct quality control and maintain equipment in the designated laboratory.
- Perform routine and specialized testing procedures, including chemical, microscopic, and bacteriological tests, while observing and documenting results.
- Prepare specimens and reagents as necessary.
- Communicate test results to healthcare providers and consult on findings.
- Review test outcomes to ensure accuracy and prompt correction of any discrepancies.
Education Requirements: A Bachelor's of Science degree is required. Candidates must meet eligibility criteria to sit for the MT exam within 12 months of hire.
Licensure/Certification Requirements: Candidates must obtain MLS/MT (ASCP), MT (NCA), or MT (AMT) certification within 12 months of hire.
Professional Experience Requirements: No prior experience is necessary.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Candidates should possess strong analytical and technical skills.
