Job Overview

The Mold Maintenance Technician will play a crucial role in implementing and upholding the Preventive Maintenance program for all Plastic Injection Molds at STERIS - Operations. This position focuses on developing standards and procedures for maintenance, ensuring accurate record-keeping, and executing preventive maintenance tasks. The technician will document all activities related to each mold to maintain a comprehensive history. Additionally, this role includes responsibilities associated with Tool Maker duties as required.

Shift: 2:00pm-10:00pm

Key Responsibilities

Mold Preventive Maintenance Technician Duties:

  • Retrieve molds from storage and prepare them according to the molding schedule.
  • Conduct mold preventive maintenance based on established priorities.
  • Prepare molds for storage and ensure proper placement.
  • Maintain necessary documentation in a log format.
  • Collaborate with the Molding Department to schedule maintenance and prevent conflicts with production.
  • Assist in planning jobs related to tooling projects.
  • Propose and implement enhancements to improve departmental efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area.
  • Set up required equipment and machinery.
  • Engage in Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards through Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and proper documentation.

Tool Maker Responsibilities:

  • Prepare molds for production runs.
  • Read, interpret, and analyze blueprints to determine necessary machine operations and finish requirements.
  • Inspect tools for defects and perform necessary repairs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Inspect products and select appropriate shop equipment and precision measurement tools.
  • Execute precision work adhering to exact tolerances and dimensions.
Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Required Experience:

  • 1-3 years of experience with Plastic Injection Molds.
  • Familiarity with injection molds, hot runner systems, and pneumatic and hydraulic components.
  • Experience in maintaining injection molds and related systems.
  • Journeyman Toolmaker or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude is essential.
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Capability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Proficiencies:

  • Experience with Blow Molding.
  • Blueprint Reading skills.
  • Experience in Injection Molding.
  • Tool/Die/Mold Setup experience.
