Position Overview

The Mold Maintenance Specialist will play a crucial role in developing and upholding the Preventive Maintenance program for all Plastic Injection Molds at STERIS - Operations. This position is essential for setting standards and procedures for maintenance, keeping accurate records, and executing preventive maintenance tasks. The specialist will meticulously document all activities related to each mold to ensure a comprehensive history is maintained. Additionally, this role includes fulfilling Tool Maker responsibilities as needed, while adhering to all safety protocols and best practices.

Shift: 2:00pm - 10:00pm

Key Responsibilities

Mold Preventive Maintenance Duties:

  • Retrieve molds from storage and prepare them according to the molding schedule.
  • Conduct mold preventive maintenance based on established priorities.
  • Prepare molds for storage and ensure proper placement.
  • Maintain essential documentation in a log format.
  • Collaborate with the Molding Department to schedule maintenance and prevent production conflicts.
  • Assist in planning related to tooling projects.
  • Propose and implement enhancements to improve departmental efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Set up necessary machinery and equipment.
  • Engage in Continuous Improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards through Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and documentation.

Tool Maker Responsibilities:

  • Prepare molds for production runs.
  • Read, interpret, and analyze blueprints to determine necessary machine operations and finish requirements.
  • Inspect tools for defects and perform necessary repairs.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Inspect products and select appropriate shop equipment and precision measurement tools.
  • Execute precision work to exacting tolerances and specifications.
Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or GED

Experience:

  • 1-3 years of experience with Plastic Injection Molds.
  • Familiarity with injection molds, hot runner systems, and pneumatic and hydraulic components.
  • Experience in maintaining injection molds and related systems.
  • Journeyman Toolmaker certification or equivalent experience is preferred.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude is essential.
  • Ability to read and write in English.
  • Proficient in reading and understanding technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Required Skills:

  • Experience with Blow Molding.
  • Proficient in Blueprint Reading.
  • Experience with Injection Molding.
  • Expertise in Tool/Die/Mold Setup.

Salary Range: $19 - $26 / hr
