RN Weekend Supervisor

Job Summary:
The RN/Charge Nurse is responsible for providing direct care to Residents and assisting the Director of Nursing (DON) in directing the activities of licensed and non-licensed personnel who provide health care and nursing services to Residents.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer basic nursing care to Residents in accordance with Facility policies and procedures.
- Assess Residents and respond according to Nursing Standards of Practice.
- Plan and implement Resident care according to the Resident Care Plan.
- Evaluate Residents on an ongoing basis to ensure needs are met and care-planned properly.
- Observe Residents, record significant conditions and reactions, and notify the Physician of Resident condition and reaction to drugs/treatments, and significant incidents.
- Take temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other vital signs to detect deviations from normal ranges and assess condition of Residents.
- Respond to life-saving situations based upon nursing standards, policies/procedures, protocol, and Resident advanced directives.
- Administer medication, including IV medication, according to doctor's order and established policy/procedure.
- Assist the DON in ensuring that Residents are free from abuse, mistreatment, and neglect.
- Direct the work of Certified Nurse Aids (CNAs) as assigned by the DON.
- Direct the work of LPNs and other nursing staff when acting as Charge Nurse.
- Confer with Resident's physician, as needed, to clarify medical orders and direct care.
- Answer call lights and respond to Resident needs as support for CNAs and other nursing staff.
- Assist with tray service to Residents capable of feeding themselves (if qualifications do not include a minimum of Certified Nurse Assistant).
- Perform related work as required.
- Effectively handle Resident and family complaints and requests.
- Promote and maintain good interpersonal relationships with Residents, visitors, and personnel.
Requirements:
- Graduate of an accredited school (at least two-year college or technical school) for professional nurses and licensed in good standing in the state where work will be performed.
- Satisfactory OIG exclusions and background check.
- Satisfactory personal and professional references.
- Possess and maintain current CPR certification, or acquire CPR certification within 90 days of date of hire.
- Current awareness of nursing and medical practices/procedures and State and Federal Regulations, including Medicare/Medicaid regulations, governing long-term care facilities.
- Awareness of and interest in the welfare of geriatric Residents with experience in gerontology.
- Ability and willingness to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability and willingness to commit to long hours of work when necessary to reach goals.
- Ability to implement programs, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures, changes, etc., necessary for the provision of quality care and effective operation of the nursing services department.
- A firm desire to perform the job and a demonstrated willingness to learn.
- Ability to understand/fully comprehend the English language and communicate effectively with Residents, Resident family members, and staff.
- Ability to read and write the English language proficiently.
- Ability to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
- Ability to speak loudly.
- Ability to perform basic math.
- Ability to deal with frequent interruptions, changes, delays, or unexpected events.
- Ability and willingness to work ethically and harmoniously with other personnel, Residents, family members, vendors, volunteers, visitors, and the general public.
- Ability to work as part of a Team.
- Exhibit leadership qualities and management ability.
- Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner, using reason even when dealing with emotional topics.
- Ability to make responsible, independent decisions when appropriate, follow directions, work with and without supervision, and accept constructive criticism.
- Ability to competently work in a variety of computer programs to include MS Word.
- Willingness to learn and improve self.
- Ability to facilitate safety and security.
- Ability to regularly lift or move 40+ pounds - occasionally lift 100+ pounds.
- Ability to assist in the evacuation of Residents in emergency situations.
- Ability and willingness to be follow the attendance policy/procedures.
- Acceptable mental and physical health: general health requirements set forth by the policies of the Facility which include a medical and physical examination upon hire.
- Ability to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position, including the ability to deal with illness, death, and dying.
- Must not pose a direct threat to the health and safety of other individuals in the work place.
