Job Summary

No prior dialysis experience is required, as paid training is provided. As a Hemodialysis Nurse, you will play a crucial role in coordinating patient care under the guidance of nephrologists. Your responsibilities will include performing tasks related to the dialysis procedure, supervising hemodialysis technicians, and evaluating patient physical, emotional, and psychological status.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform all tasks involved with the dialysis procedure
  • Supervise hemodialysis technicians
  • Evaluate patient's physical, emotional, and psychological status
  • Execute plans of care in accordance with an interdisciplinary approach
  • Evaluate patient's response to treatment and lab work
  • Report to the physician as needed and adjust treatment plan when indicated within established protocol
  • Perform all tasks, procedures, treatments, and administration of medications designated to an RN
  • Collect CQI data as assigned
  • Participate as an interdisciplinary team member in developing long and short-term care plans
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all Practice information regarding patients, coworkers, and physicians
Requirements
  • Must possess the ability to exercise expert judgment and develop insight into delivering appropriate care
  • Must possess the ability to communicate effectively and express ideas clearly and concisely
  • Must possess the ability to meet physical demands of the position, including constant sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and moving
  • Ability to excel in a stressful, fast-paced work environment subject to frequent interruptions and hostile and emotionally upset patients, family members, staff, etc.
Education, Certification, and Experience
  • Successful completion of an accredited nursing program in which R.N. is acquired or a BSN from an accredited university
  • Current nursing licensure by the Pennsylvania Board of Nursing
  • Certified Nephrology Nurse (CNN) or equivalent preferred
  • CPR and BCLS certification required
  • Minimum one year's nursing experience as an RN
Physical and Environmental Conditions

The Hemodialysis Nurse must expect to be exposed to the possibility of injury when using or lifting equipment and supplies, infection from undiagnosed contagious patients, disagreeable odors, and exposure to blood-borne pathogens.

The Hemodialysis Nurse is expected to exercise 'universal precautions' in the performance of all duties as this position may be subject to exposure to AIDS and Hepatitis B and C viruses.
