At Southland Industries, we are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Safety Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our safety department, you will play a critical role in ensuring a safe working environment for our employees and clients.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide administrative support to the safety department, including data entry, typing correspondence, and general office duties.
- Assist with safety class registration, safety meeting preparation, and monthly new hire safety orientation scheduling/training.
- Conduct worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous conditions, proper use of equipment, and use of PPE.
- Conduct and coordinate housekeeping inspections and safety audits, with a focus on hazard recognition, unsafe behaviors, and OSHA compliance.
- Document and communicate inspection results to site supervision, identifying and recommending solutions to hazardous/potentially hazardous conditions.
- Coordinate and control the development and review of task hazard analysis (THA) and job hazard analysis (JHA) for assigned projects, identifying safety needs and facilitating necessary training.
- Assist with case management of open claims through to closure, notifying the safety director or Sr. Safety Manager of status.
- Prepare, submit, file, and maintain all essential safety paperwork accurately and thoroughly.
- Attend accident review meetings as directed.
- Conduct new hire safety training as needed.
- High school degree or equivalent.
- 1-2 years of experience in construction safety and/or industrial safety.
- Knowledge of MS Office and basic office routines.
- Outstanding organizational and written/verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail; consistently accurate data-entry.
