Job Title: Assistant General Counsel

Best Best & Krieger LLP is a leading law firm dedicated to delivering exceptional legal services to public agencies, businesses, and individuals across the United States.

We are seeking an experienced Assistant General Counsel to join our team and provide expert advice on complex legal issues, conflicts, and compliance matters.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Advise the firm's General Counsel and Executive Committee on rules and regulations governing the legal profession.
  • Analyze and navigate complex conflicts issues in new business and lateral scenarios.
  • Supervise and advise members of the Docketing and Conflicts & Intake teams.
  • Render advice on rules of professional conduct and implement efficient and effective approaches to conflicts resolution and client management.
  • Perform legal research and assist with drafting correspondence or briefs related to conflicts issues.
  • Oversee and coordinate ethical compliance throughout the firm.
  • Assist with conflicts training for lawyers and business professionals across the firm.
  • Stay up-to-date on legal ethics and provide education and alerts.
  • Oversee processes regarding conflicts resolution, including implementation of ethical walls and waivers.
  • Conduct privileged discussions on ethics and professional responsibility issues.
  • Liaise with in-house Labor & Employment and Human Resources personnel on employment issues.
  • Assist as-needed with leasing and contract review.
Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience as a licensed attorney, preferably in California.
  • At least 2 years' experience working in the risk/new business function of a major law firm focusing on conflicts, or as a lawyer for a state bar regulator/disciplinary committee.
  • Experience analyzing conflicts of interest and advising lawyers in connection with the rules of professional conduct.
  • Strong working knowledge and awareness of the current conflicts and compliance landscape, best practices, and developments in this sector.
  • Ability to apply knowledge to promote continuous improvement.
  • Supervisory experience is required.
Compensation:

The reasonably expected pay scale for this position is $160,000 - $200,000, depending on the selected candidate's years of practice and experience.
