Job Overview

As the Parks Maintenance Crew Leader, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the aesthetic appeal and safety of our parks and recreational areas. This position allows you to leverage your leadership skills while ensuring the highest standards of maintenance and care.

Key Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

  • Lead a team of full-time and part-time employees in executing maintenance and repair tasks as per established work orders, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
  • Safely operate various equipment including riding mowers, tractors, and hand tools to perform tasks such as mowing, trimming, and general grounds upkeep.
  • Oversee landscaping activities, including planting, pruning, and mulching to enhance the visual appeal of parks and recreational spaces.
  • Conduct maintenance and minor repairs on recreational facilities, ensuring all equipment is safe and functional.
  • Manage the preparation and upkeep of athletic fields, including dragging, marking, and leveling dirt infields.
  • Administer herbicide and pesticide applications in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Coordinate the transportation of supplies and materials as needed.
Additional Responsibilities

Maintain cleanliness of park facilities, including restrooms, and perform general cleanup duties.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills:

  • Strong judgment and initiative in decision-making.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of parks and recreation maintenance tools and techniques.
  • Familiarity with safety standards and regulations in the maintenance field.
  • Proficient in turf management and landscaping practices.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Capacity to build and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and community members.
  • Physical stamina to perform manual labor for extended periods.
  • Ability to engage courteously with the public and fellow employees.
Physical Requirements
  • Must be capable of performing essential physical tasks including lifting, climbing, and operating machinery.
  • Ability to exert significant physical effort, including lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Visual acuity necessary for inspecting work quality and operating equipment safely.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent, along with substantial experience in landscaping and turf management.

Special Requirements

Valid driver's license and willingness to obtain a pesticide license if not already possessed.
