Veterinary Assistant Role at Beacon Veterinary Specialists

Beacon Veterinary Specialists is seeking a dedicated individual with experience in client services who has a passion for animal care and excels in a fast-paced environment. As a Veterinary Assistant, you will gain insights into advanced medical practices, patient management, and client education while collaborating closely with a veterinarian or emergency clinician as part of a healthcare team.


Work Schedule:

The training period will follow a schedule of Monday - Friday from 11:00 AM - 7:30 PM. After training, the regular working hours will remain the same.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Guide pet owners through the consultation process and clarify what to expect during their visits.
  • Measure and record vital signs of patients as required.
  • Gather a concise medical history from pet owners regarding their animals.
  • Assist in documenting the veterinarian's notes by entering patient histories into the electronic medical records system.
  • Under the veterinarian's guidance, develop medical treatment plans for patients and discuss these plans, including costs, with pet owners.
  • Handle payment collections as necessary.
  • Dispense medications for home care when appropriate.
  • Prepare and review discharge paperwork for patients and assist with their exit appointments.
  • Manage communications via phone and email on behalf of the veterinarian and/or technicians.
  • Consult with clients and referring veterinarians to assess whether immediate emergency care is needed or if an appointment can be scheduled.
  • Ensure that veterinarians receive and review diagnostic test results for patients.

Education Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience Needed:

  • A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience is required.
  • Experience in surgery, specialty, or emergency veterinary care is preferred.
