Job Overview

The Clinical Laboratory Technician is responsible for conducting patient specimen evaluations for diagnostic objectives under the guidance of a Medical Technologist. This role includes entering all findings into the laboratory information system and promptly communicating critical test results to the supervising Medical Technologist or Pathologist.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure cleanliness and sterility of laboratory equipment and workspaces.
  • Manage laboratory inventory effectively.
  • Process laboratory specimens and accurately report results across various clinical laboratory sections.
  • Maintain comprehensive laboratory records and adhere to established policies and quality control protocols.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in all clinical laboratory areas, including blood banking, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and serology/immunology.
  • Conduct high-complexity testing and modify procedures as necessary for patients of all ages.
  • Perform quality control checks and instrument calibrations.
  • Notify healthcare teams of critical laboratory values in a timely manner.
  • Maintain precise documentation for statistical and billing purposes.
  • Engage professionally with the Director of Clinical Laboratory, Pathologist, and laboratory personnel.
  • Collaborate with other departments to enhance patient care and improve laboratory practices.
  • Uphold patient safety standards and minimize healthcare errors.
  • Conduct routine and emergency laboratory assays, including qualitative urine analysis and blood type cross-matching.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment functionality through regular maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Identify and quantify substances through toxicology testing and manual methods.
  • Provide essential test results to support patient diagnosis and treatment.
Qualifications

To be considered for this position, candidates should possess:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • An associate degree in a scientific discipline is preferred.
  • Certification as a Medical Lab Technician in relevant specialties.
  • State licensure as a Medical Technologist in blood banking, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and serology/immunology.
  • Preferred certification in the field.
