Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Technical Engineering Specialist to join our team at Raytheon Technologies. This role will involve providing technical expertise and working with Subject Matter Experts to characterize next generation advanced materials for current and future propulsion systems.

The successful candidate will have a strong background in materials science and engineering, with experience in modeling and simulation of materials behavior. They will also have excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical expertise and work with Subject Matter Experts to characterize next generation advanced materials for current and future propulsion systems.
  • Collaborate with process engineers and modeling engineers to model improved materials and provide data for model validation.
  • Develop and implement modeling solutions, conducting studies and evaluation of system and subsystem performance.
  • Participate in root cause analysis when required for abnormal processes, material composition or performance.
  • Develop creative solutions to resolve challenges or improve material performance, including filing for patents or documenting trade secrets as applicable.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree from ABET in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related STEM degree.
  • ~10+ years of Engineering experience, or 7+ years with an advanced degree.
  • Experience working with computational design and analysis tools such as Fluent, Abaqus, Ansys, COMSOL multi-physics and Matlab/Python.
  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related STEM degree.
  • Experience with polymer, metal, or ceramic matrix composites modeling experience.
  • Experience with modeling, simulation and/or statistical analysis of the behavior and performance of existing or proposed engineering solutions.
  • Experience in material and process development for ceramic matrix composites, or other advance ceramic systems with complex microstructure requirements.
  • Demonstrated expertise of ceramic property-process-microstructure relationships.
  • Knowledge and effective practice of aerospace quality practices like AS9100 and/or ISO9001.
