Job Title: Electrical Engineer for Renewable Energy Projects

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join our team at Mastech Digital. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the preparation of preliminary designs for renewable energy facilities, managing electrical engineering contractors, and maintaining substation engineering design criteria.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the preparation of preliminary designs for renewable energy facilities.
  • Manage electrical engineering contractors, including definition of requirements and specifications, review of engineering drawings, and RFI management.
  • Maintain substation engineering design criteria and technical specifications for all equipment and works involved in the construction of the plant.
  • Support contractual negotiations with electrical engineering contractors regarding general technical areas.
  • Support and conduct engineering analysis of new technologies.
  • Manage and coordinate external consultants to complete internal assessments.
  • Undertake site visits internationally to ensure the quality of the substation at different stages of the project.
  • Support the development of tools and procedures for ensuring consistency, quality, and optimized design cost.
  • Optimize design to maximize ROI.
  • Provide engineering consulting support to project managers in the preliminary design and engineering of substations.
  • Provide engineering consulting support to other areas of the organization, including O&M and Power Marketing.
  • Conduct plant equipment technical review and specifications, including transformers, breakers, control buildings, SCADA, and other MV/HV equipment.
  • Develop and maintain electrical specifications and requirements to define standards to contractors.
  • Contribute to the electrical Safety in Design process for all projects in development and engineering.
  • Ensure compliance of self and others on site during construction with federal, state, and local laws and with safety and environmental standards, policies, and practices.
  • Oversee the electrical tests performed by the Construction Team on site prior to and during the commissioning of the renewable energy facilities.
  • Support the QA/QC team on site.
  • Provide electrical technical interface to support Procurement.
  • Evaluate electrical equipment and material proposals.
  • Assist with management of the Non-Conformity and the Quality Audit programs.
  • Be on-site for back feed and first energization to grid and commissioning.
  • Review and comment on the scope of work of electrical contracts.
  • Assist with receiving and inspecting of the major pieces of electrical equipment.

Requirements:

  • 4-year Electrical Engineering degree required, P.E. license a plus.
  • 5 years of experience in utility or power plant design preferred.
  • Excellent communications skills, with the ability to provide training on complex operations.
  • Familiarity with PV, wind, and BESS industry and systems, including working knowledge of transformers, control buildings, and HV equipment.
  • Good knowledge of the main players in the industry (EPCs, third-party labs, etc.).
  • Experience of large-scale substation design, construction, and commissioning.
  • Experience on the preparation of substation Basic Design package and EPC Detail Design reviews.
  • Detailed knowledge of substation sizing and configuration, including design optimization.
  • Knowledge of Plant EPC contracts, including Technical Exhibits.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical theory and concepts.
  • Ability to communicate detailed information accurately to internal/external customers.
  • Ability to professionally represent the company when dealing with external organizations.
  • Demonstrate continuous commitment to safe operations.
  • Ability to travel 15% - 30% of time to domestic and international locations.
  • Able to work in an indoor or outdoor environment.
  • Have a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Must be able to use Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, Bluebeam, ETAP, and AutoCAD.
