Job Title: Structural Project Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Structural Project Engineer to join our team at Degenkolb Engineers. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for facilitating the design and engineering of structural systems for building structures and facilities from pre-schematic phase through construction closeout.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement structural design solutions that meet client and project requirements, including load requirements, governing codes, architectural constraints, operational constraints, fabrication and erection requirements.
  • Apply advanced theoretical knowledge of civil and structural engineering principles and concepts to ensure the integrity and safety of structural systems.
  • Oversee the work of junior engineers, designers, and drafters in the production of structural construction documents, including drawings, specifications, bidding, and construction administration for projects.
  • Develop and maintain technical skills of junior staff, providing guidance and mentorship to ensure their career progression.
  • Perform structural calculations, applying appropriate system concepts and layouts to ensure accuracy and efficiency.
  • Review and respond to RFI's, submittals, and other construction-related documents to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Manage multiple projects of moderate size or portions of major projects with minimal supervision from senior technical staff.
  • Participate in developing client proposals, including preparing scope, budgets, and schedules for assignments.
  • Maintain close relationships with clients during project development, execution, and completion.
  • Participate in client and design team meetings, as well as plan review and approval processes.
  • Pursue business development efforts to grow the company's presence in the market.
Requirements:
  • Master's Degree in Structural Engineering and relevant experience with a stable history.
  • California Professional Civil or Structural Engineering license.
  • Experience in seismic design, seismic evaluation, and retrofit of existing buildings in regions of high seismicity.
  • Ability to perform complex structural calculations, including linear and nonlinear analysis, with minimal direction.
  • Demonstrated design skills with steel, concrete, masonry, and wood structures.
  • Familiarity with California Building Codes and ASCE 41 Standards.
  • Knowledge of modeling applications, including ETABS, RISA, RAM, Revit, MathCAD, SAP2000, AutoCAD, and Tekla.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • California Structural Engineer license.
  • Active participation in professional activities related to structural or earthquake engineering.
  • Proficiency with software programs, including Python, Rhino, or Grasshopper.
  • Experience supervising, coordinating, or mentoring junior staff.
