Lead Advanced Practice Provider in Cardiothoracic Surgery

Banner University Medical Group Tucson is actively seeking a Lead Advanced Practice Provider (ACNP or PA) to enhance our Cardiothoracic Surgery team. In this pivotal role, the Advanced Practice Provider will oversee a group of APPs, ensuring that the clinical operations are effectively executed and sustained. This leadership position involves collaboration with APPs, surgeons, physician leaders, management, and other key stakeholders to pinpoint areas for improvement in clinical quality, patient satisfaction, and provider satisfaction.

Given the high-pressure nature of open-heart surgery, the ability to perform under stress is essential. As a teaching institution, we have numerous individuals learning concurrently, making strong communication skills and a composed demeanor crucial for success in this role. This lead APP will support the Cardiothoracic Surgeons in the operating room, acting as a first assistant. The ideal candidate will work closely with Cardiothoracic Surgeons and engage with Residents, Fellows, and clinicians from various departments including Cardiology, Thoracic, Transplant, Radiology, and Anesthesia. The candidate must be capable of independently managing patient flow within the hospital.
Position Highlights:
- Full-time schedule, Monday through Friday.
- Experience with Endoscopic Vessel Harvesting (EVH) is preferred.
- Primarily responsible for OR duties, including conduit harvesting (vein, radial arteries), preparation, draping, and transitioning patients safely to the ICU and other perioperative care.
- Participate in rotating OR call, including transplant procedures.
Qualifications Required:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery/OR, preferably with leadership roles.
- Experience as a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) or Surgical First Assistant is preferred.
- Current Board Certification is required.
- Active Arizona License.
- Current certifications in CPR, BLS, and ACLS.
- Current prescribing privileges, including a DEA license for controlled substances.
