X-Ray Technologist Job Description

The X-Ray Technologist plays a critical role in assisting radiologists and physicians with diagnosing and treating disease and injury. This position requires a high level of expertise in operating X-ray and fluoroscopic equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Prepare patients for radiologic procedures, ensuring their safety and comfort.
  • Protect patients, self, and other staff from radiation hazards, adhering to established protocols.
  • Take X-rays following established procedures, implementing infection control measures and maintaining a clean work environment.
  • Select the appropriate ionizing factors for radiological diagnosis and adjust/set radiographic controls as needed.
  • Position patients and take X-rays of specific body parts as requested by physicians, checking for clarity and retaking when necessary.
  • Distribute X-rays to the appropriate medical staff and maintain accurate records, including patient records, daily log books, and monthly reports.
  • Perform quality control checks to ensure the X-ray unit meets standards required by laws, rules, and departmental policies.
  • Comply with safety standards and maintain radiographic equipment, including determining equipment repairs and ordering supplies as needed.
Requirements:
  • Associate's degree in radiological technology from an accredited X-ray technology program.
  • One to three years of experience as an X-ray technologist, preferably in a medical practice environment.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologist registration is preferred.
Physical Demands:
  • Requires mobility, frequent walking, standing, and sitting, with some bending, stooping, and stretching, and periodic lifting of up to 50 lbs.
  • Requires normal (corrected) vision and coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate office equipment.
Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment, with routine use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., but may vary depending on the company schedule.
