Key Responsibilities- Community Needs Assessment: Conduct regular assessments to identify the needs of children and teens, and develop tailored services and programs to address these needs.
- Patron Services: Provide prompt, courteous, and direct assistance to patrons with basic information regarding library materials, equipment, and services.
- Collection Development: Ensure the library's collections include relevant print, audio-visual, and digital resources aimed at the specific interests and needs of youth and families in the community.
- Program Development: Develop and conduct programs for children and caregivers that encourage reading, viewing, and listening skills, and the use of library facilities and materials.
- Outreach and Partnerships: Engage in outreach to schools, daycares, preschools, and other community organizations and agencies that serve children and their caregivers.
- Instruction and Training: Instruct teens, children, and caregivers in information gathering, research skills, and digital literacy skills.
- Community Engagement: Leverage community experts, coaches, and mentors for services and programs to meet the needs and interests of youth and families.
- Relationship Building: Develop and maintain effective relationships with schools, community groups, agencies, and non-profits that target youth to plan and deliver programs and services that meet local youth and families' needs and interests.
- Staff Coordination: Coordinate daily activities of staff and volunteers assigned to children or family services.
- Program Evaluation: Take a leadership role in developing, implementing, and evaluating the overall children, teen, and family services program.
- Professional Development: Attend and participate in professional library conferences, seminars, and network committees; read professional literature; attend and participate in staff meeting discussions.
- Education: Minimum of Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in education or liberal arts.
- Experience: Library experience required, with a minimum of 2 years of experience working with children and families.
- Skills: Excellent organizational skills, ability to speak in front of large groups, effective interpersonal relations, and demonstrated knowledge and appreciation of literature for children.
- Language: Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but not required.
