Key Responsibilities:

  1. Proposal Development:
    • Create comprehensive proposals for new components according to client specifications.
    • Determine suitable machine tools, materials, cycle times, tooling expenses, and any necessary external services.
  2. Documentation and Tool Management:
    • Prepare detailed tool layout documents, outlining all required tooling and hardware for specific tasks on designated machine tools. Include inventory identifiers for perishable tools to assist operators in locating the correct cutting tools.
    • Generate color-coded offset prints to effectively communicate which tools influence specific geometries on the workpiece, enabling operators to make accurate adjustments and maintain part specifications.
    • Regularly revise layouts and offset prints to incorporate process enhancements and modifications.
  3. CNC Programming and Process Design:
    • Design and execute machining processes, including:
      • Sequence of operations
      • Selection of machine tools
      • Choice of cutting tools
      • Workholding strategies
      • Appropriate machining methods (e.g., drilling, reaming, boring, broaching, etc.)
    • Establish optimal machining parameters, such as speeds, feeds, and depth of cut, based on the material of the workpiece, cutting tool material, and geometry.
    • Develop CNC programs utilizing Partmaker or Esprit CAD/CAM software for various CNC turning centers, Swiss-type turning centers, and CNC multi-spindle machines, including brands like Index, Miyano, Star, Mori Seiki, Okuma, Daewoo, Takamaz, and ZPS.
    • Provide CNC programming for 33 CNC machines, using controls and programming languages such as Siemens 840D, Fanuc, Okuma OSP, and Mitsubishi.
    • Configure part files in the Zoller tool presetter for all Index and Star ST38 processes.
  4. Training and Development:
    • Educate personnel on machine setup, operation, and maintenance for all Index and CNC department machinery.
  5. Continuous Improvement Initiatives:
    • Monitor and enhance cycle times and process capabilities across all CNC machinery.
  6. Machine Setup and Proving:
    • Conduct machine setups during peak demand periods or when setup personnel are unavailable.
    • Establish and validate new processes and intricate components.
  7. Problem Solving and Corrective Actions:
    • Engage in corrective action discussions with quality control to tackle process inefficiencies and quality issues, offering technical solutions.
  8. Troubleshooting and Maintenance:
    • Identify and resolve machinery issues, consulting with machine manufacturers as needed.
    • Utilize Siemens Step 7 PLC programming to diagnose and rectify logic system failures.
    • Source and secure cost-effective replacement parts for machine repairs.
    • Coordinate the repair and refurbishment of mechanical and electronic machine components.
  9. Manufacturing of Repair Parts:
    • Fabricate repair and replacement components for machine tools as required.
