Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Scholarly Communication Librarian to join our team at Fairfield University. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for scholarly communication issues and the research lifecycle on campus.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Strategic Direction: Provide direction, strategies, and support for the Library's digital content strategy, including the creation, sharing, measuring of impact, and preserving of scholarship and creative works.
  • Research Lifecycle Support: Support initiatives that promote barrier-free and open access to research, and understand and support the variety of ways to demonstrate research impact of scholarship.
  • Collaboration and Liaison: Collaborate with the Library's Faculty Partnership program to develop opportunities to engage with scholars at the discipline level, and liaise with different campus offices to track scholarship produced by Fairfield University faculty, staff, and students.
  • Repository Management: Manage day-to-day operations of DigitalCommons@Fairfield and Pure4EGS, including procuring digital content, describing it, and making it accessible to a global audience.
  • Staff Supervision: Supervise and support staff, including recruiting, hiring, and training, coaching and mentoring, and evaluating performance.
  • Professional Development: Participate in the growth, development, and professional work of the Library, including embodying the mission and values of the Library and the University, and monitoring developments in librarianship.
Requirements
  • Education: Graduate degree in Library & Information Science (MLS or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program, second Master's in subject-specific field, or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Knowledge of best practices, current trends, and issues in scholarly communication, experience working with a digital repository, and excellent communication, organization, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Preferred Experience: Second Master's in subject-specific field, experience working with the Digital Commons and Pure4EGS platforms, one year or more experience working in an academic library, and demonstrated knowledge of research impact measures.
Working Conditions

Availability for evening and weekend work, as needed, is required.

Supervision and Reporting

The Scholarly Communication Librarian will report to the Associate Dean for Technical Services and the Budget.
