Job Title: Junior Accountant

The Salvation Army is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Junior Accountant to join our Finance Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting with accounting and payroll functions, ensuring accurate and timely processing of financial transactions.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Process payroll, including calculating pay and deductions, and issuing checks.
  • Assist locations in collecting and verifying timekeeping information for employees.
  • Process wage garnishments and generate payroll registers.
  • Assist with seasonal payroll and process accounts payable and accounts receivable in a timely manner.
  • Post and process journal entries, and assist with reviewing expenses and payroll records.
  • Assist with audit preparation for external and internal audits.
Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Associates Degree, bachelor's degree, or Accounting Certification from an accredited college or trade school.
  • Two years' experience in the accounting field, with an Accounting Degree or Certification, less experience will be considered.
  • Must be computer literate and able to work in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook or email program with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience with Shelby accounting software and/or Ultipro payroll software preferred.
  • Must be able to understand, follow, and receive English written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to speak, read, comprehend, write, and communicate effectively in the English language and in a professional manner.
  • Ability to maintain patience and courtesy in dealing with a wide range of people and their needs.
  • Must be well organized, self-motivated, flexible, and possess good people skills.
  • Ability to address multiple projects in a time-sensitive manner is essential.
  • Must possess the self-discipline necessary to perform repetitive tasks without lowering quality of work.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to maintain the highest level of security in addressing oral and written communications as well as the filing of correspondence to protect the integrity.
Work Environment:

The Junior Accountant will work in a moderate noise level environment, occasionally working near moving mechanical parts. The employee must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without accommodation.
