Position Overview:
The primary role of the Clinical Reviewer for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery is to gather and provide precise, comprehensive, and timely information to the MBSAQIP Registry.

This is achieved through meticulous data collection, documentation, and the entry of all metabolic and bariatric procedures conducted at the facility into the MBSAQIP Registry.

The Clinical Reviewer collaborates closely with the metabolic and bariatric surgery teams to pinpoint areas for clinical quality enhancement and to engage in various special initiatives as needed.

The Clinical Reviewer will participate in multiple committees, including the Bariatric Quality Improvement and Bariatric Steering Committee.


Key Responsibilities:

Clinical Expertise:
Effective data collection and the identification of improvement opportunities necessitate a solid understanding of clinical practices and patient care.

The ideal candidate should possess a foundational clinical knowledge and have access to a clinical mentor for assistance with complex clinical inquiries.

Technical Proficiency:
The ability to learn and effectively use new software and web applications for data entry and report generation is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, along with basic statistical skills, is required. (25%)

Healthcare Systems Knowledge:

The capacity to track health information from various sources, including medical records, surgical clinics, death indexes, direct patient interactions, accounts payable, and legal counsel, is vital.

Experience in navigating complex hospital systems is preferred. (20%)

Departmental Awareness:

The ability to identify opportunities for reporting metabolic and bariatric data to relevant groups or meetings (such as morbidity and mortality reviews, infection control, quality management, and administrative meetings) is crucial.

Experience in cross-functional information sharing is advantageous. (20%)

Other duties may be assigned by department leadership as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

Required:
Completion of the online MBSCR Training Program is mandatory.

Preferred:
A Bachelor's degree is preferred. Credentials such as RHIA, RHIT, LP/LVN, RD, RN, or BSN are advantageous but not mandatory.

Required:
Familiarity with medical terminology, basic anatomy, physiology, and disease processes is essential. A minimum of one year of experience in a hospital surgery department, surgery clinic, clinical research, or medical records is required. Experience in clinical chart review and abstraction is necessary. Proficiency in computer and internet usage is required.

Comfort with Microsoft Office products is critical for success in this role (experience with Word and Excel is required; PowerPoint experience is strongly preferred).

Ability to manage data entry deadlines and the accreditation processes of the center is necessary. Knowledge and experience in quality improvement or patient safety are preferred. Experience in database management and data entry is advantageous. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and standards is preferred. Basic or intermediate statistical knowledge is also preferred.

Compensation:
The hourly rate for this position is $46.46, based on verified education and experience.
