Compensation:
  • School Food Services Manager I, WF-06: $5,082.23 per month

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Collaborate with school leadership and the School Food Service Branch to devise and implement strategies for effective service, equipment utilization, and operational efficiency.
  2. Oversee daily food service functions; assess and enhance internal operating protocols.
  3. Ensure high standards of quality control in food preparation and distribution; manage the execution of approved menus and recipes while adhering to USDA meal pattern guidelines; adjust menus to meet students' dietary requirements.
  4. Engage in the recruitment and selection process for food service personnel; plan, direct, schedule, and evaluate the performance of team members; may oversee student workers in kitchen and dining areas.
  5. Provide training and orientation to food service staff on best practices, equipment operation, safety, and sanitation regulations; ensure compliance with USDA training requirements.
  6. Forecast and procure food and supplies to align with menu requirements, managing the receipt and storage of goods.
  7. Maintain ongoing inventory, financial records, and compliance documentation, utilizing manual or computerized systems.
  8. Monitor budget adherence; manage expenditures and process invoices for payment.
  9. Conduct daily inspections of kitchen and dining facilities to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  10. Coordinate maintenance and repair schedules for kitchen equipment.
  11. May oversee satellite food service operations, including food preparation, scheduling, personnel management, and post-service clean-up.
  12. Participate in staff meetings and professional development workshops; maintain necessary certifications and training hours as mandated by the USDA.

Educational Requirements:
High school graduation or equivalent is required.

Experience Requirements:
Applicants must possess progressively responsible experience as outlined below:
  • School Food Services Manager I: 2 years of general experience
  • School Food Services Manager II: 2 years of specialized experience
  • School Food Services Manager III: 3 years of specialized experience
  • School Food Services Manager IV: 4 years of specialized experience

General Experience: Involves significant experience in food preparation, including large-scale cooking, menu planning, and fiscal management.

Specialized Experience: Management experience in food services within educational or institutional settings, overseeing daily operations, compliance with regulations, and staff supervision.

Supervisory Aptitude: Demonstrated potential for supervisory responsibilities through relevant assignments or training.

Certification Requirement: Valid food handlers training certification from an accredited organization is necessary.
