Purpose of the Role
The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for operating imaging equipment and ensuring the safety and comfort of patients during diagnostic procedures. This full-time position typically involves approximately 30 hours of work per week, with one rotating day off.
Key Responsibilities
- Set up and adjust x-ray machinery, calibrating exposure settings such as time and distance.
- Utilize beam-restrictive devices and implement patient shielding techniques to minimize radiation exposure.
- Position patients on examination tables and configure equipment to capture optimal images as directed by the physician.
- Process and develop radiographs using both traditional film processors and digital methods.
- Communicate procedures clearly to patients to alleviate anxiety and ensure cooperation.
- Assess patient x-ray requirements by interpreting physician requests.
- Prepare the x-ray room and ensure all necessary equipment is ready for use.
- Conduct imaging procedures, ensuring quality standards are met and redoing any unsatisfactory images.
- Operate digital archiving systems for image storage and retrieval.
- Assist in transporting patients to and from examination areas.
- Support physicians and fellow technologists during complex imaging procedures.
- Coordinate with other technicians when multiple personnel are required for a procedure.
- Maintain accurate records of patient examinations, including medical histories and technical details.
- Ensure that all necessary supplies, including contrast materials and chemicals, are available and functioning properly.
- Conduct quality control checks, monitor equipment performance, and report any malfunctions to the supervisor.
- Keep updated protocols for examinations readily available.
- Provide guidance to students or colleagues on imaging techniques and positioning for optimal results.
- Assist in training new staff or students and provide feedback on their performance.
- Prepare necessary materials under the supervision of a radiologist.
- Monitor patients' vital signs during procedures and report any significant changes to the radiologist.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED, with a minimum of two years of relevant experience.
- Completion of an accredited Radiology Program.
- Experience in providing personal care and support to patients.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate various solutions and approaches.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to listen and respond effectively.
- Ability to identify potential issues and recognize when problems may arise.
- Clear verbal communication skills for effective interaction.
- Capacity to synthesize information to form conclusions.
Work Environment
This role requires the ability to handle criticism and manage high-stress situations with composure. Maintaining emotional control and professionalism is essential, even in challenging circumstances.
Physical Requirements
The position necessitates the ability to walk, climb, bend, and lift items weighing up to 25 pounds.
