Job Summary

The Registered Nursing (RN) role at Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center is a critical position that requires a high level of clinical knowledge and skills. As a Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care to expectant mothers and their newborns. This role involves working in a fast-paced environment, making quick decisions, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care to laboring women and their newborns, including administering medications, performing procedures, and monitoring vital signs.
  • Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Conduct thorough assessments of patients, identifying potential complications and taking proactive steps to prevent them.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with patients, families, and healthcare teams to ensure seamless communication and care coordination.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, contributing to the development and implementation of evidence-based practices that enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction.
Requirements
  • Current RN licensure in the state of Virginia or compact state.
  • Associate's degree in nursing or higher.
  • 2+ years of experience in labor and delivery or a related field.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, making quick decisions and prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with patients, families, and healthcare teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BSN or MSN degree.
  • 2+ years of experience in labor and delivery or a related field.
  • NRP certification.
  • PALS certification.
