Overview:
The Pediatric Respiratory Therapy Supervisor will report directly to the Administrative Director of Cardiopulmonary Services.

This role involves overseeing the responsibilities of department supervisors and coordinating the efforts of staff engaged in respiratory therapy services for pediatric patients, while also providing support in other units as necessary.

The Supervisor will ensure the delivery of high-quality care to all residents at all times.

Responsibilities:
The Pediatric Respiratory Therapy Supervisor will manage the care of all ventilator-dependent residents within the Pediatric unit. This position will serve as a key liaison between the Pulmonologist/physician and the Respiratory therapists.


Additionally, the Supervisor will oversee the tracheostomy program for pediatric patients, ensuring that residents with tracheostomies receive appropriate care.


The Supervisor will coordinate ongoing educational programs to maintain and enhance the skills and knowledge of the Respiratory Therapy staff, while also introducing and implementing new concepts.

They will ensure that there is an adequate supply of respiratory care equipment that aligns with the acuity levels of the residents.


The Pediatric Respiratory Therapy Supervisor will develop and uphold an effective Infection Control program, which includes staff training on the prevention of hospital-acquired infections.


Quality care for ventilator and tracheostomy residents will be ensured through regular functional audits, with findings reported to the Administrative Director of Cardiopulmonary Services.

The Supervisor will maintain quality control across all areas where respiratory therapy is administered.

They will evaluate residents receiving respiratory therapy services and assist physicians in selecting appropriate therapies.

The Supervisor will oversee clinical training experiences and provide in-service training for staff as needed, along with new employee orientation.

During busy periods, they will be available to assist staff in managing workloads.

Daily documentation by staff will be ensured.

Other duties may be assigned as necessary.

Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor's Degree from an AMA accredited Respiratory Therapy Program.

Master's Degree is preferred.

Membership in the AARC is required.

Experience:
A minimum of four (4) years of experience as a critical care therapist, including at least two (2) years in a supervisory role.

Knowledge and Skills:
Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.

License/Certifications:
NYS Licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist is required.

BCLS Certification is required.

ACLS Certification is required.

PALS Certification is required.

Physical Requirements:
Must be capable of performing all job functions.

Frequent activities include bending, pushing, stooping, kneeling, pulling, lifting, and walking.

Must possess finger dexterity and complete use of hands, arms, and feet.

Manual dexterity and mobility are necessary to handle instruments and equipment.

Ability to enter, retrieve, and access information using a computer is required.

Fine manipulation of hands for writing, typing, dialing a phone, and using other office equipment is necessary.

Must have acceptable corrected visual and auditory acuity.

Ability to distinguish and identify different colors is required.

Must have the ability to judge distance and spatial relationships.
