As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing high-quality respiratory care to patients in various settings, including acute, chronic, and critical care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess patient needs and develop individualized respiratory care plans in collaboration with physicians and other healthcare professionals.
  • Administer aerosolized medications, perform sputum inductions, and manage ventilators and BiPAP devices in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Monitor patients on mechanical ventilation and make necessary adjustments to ensure optimal care.
  • Record patient treatment, response, and progress in the electronic medical record (EMR).
  • Perform diagnostic tests, including pulmonary function and sleep studies, as needed.
  • Inspect, test, maintain, and operate all respiratory therapy equipment to ensure proper function and safety.
  • Respond to emergency situations, such as CODE 99 and trauma calls, and assist in maintaining patient airways and performing CPR as needed.
  • Consult with physicians and provide information and suggestions for various treatment modalities.
  • Assist physicians in instructing patients and their families on the use of equipment and techniques involved in self-care.
  • Participate in in-service education programs and attend all required training sessions.
  • Maintain stores of disposable and non-disposable equipment, including medical gas tanks, in assigned areas throughout the hospital.
  • Clean, assemble, and maintain all equipment used by the department, as needed.

Requirements:

  • Associate degree or Bachelor degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related field.
  • Graduate of an AMA-approved program for respiratory therapy (two-year program).
  • Experience in acute, chronic, and critical care for adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients preferred.
  • Must maintain continuing education credits as required for NBRC credential and NYS License.
  • Must be familiar with all areas of the department's function.
  • Current NBRC Registered Respiratory Therapist certificate.
  • Current NYS license as a Respiratory Therapist.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • ACLS certification preferred.
  • NYFD G-71 certificate preferred.
  • Active member of AARC and NYDART preferred.

Physical Requirements:

The position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day. The position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
