Santa Clara, California, United States Palo Alto Networks Full time

Our Mission

At Palo Alto Networks, our mission is at the forefront of everything we do:

To be the preferred cybersecurity partner, safeguarding our digital existence.

We envision a world where each day is more secure than the last. Our company is built on the principles of challenging the norm and redefining the landscape of cybersecurity. We seek innovators who are dedicated to shaping the future of this field.

Our Work Philosophy

We prioritize flexibility and choice in all our employee programs. We have redefined the conventional perspective that all employees share identical needs and desires. We provide personalized options, allowing our employees to select what suits them best—from well-being support to professional growth and development.

At Palo Alto Networks, we value collaboration and the importance of in-person interactions. This is why our employees typically work from the office three days a week, reserving two days for personal choice and flexibility in their work environment. This arrangement encourages informal discussions, problem-solving, and the establishment of trusted relationships. While specifics may evolve, our aim is to cultivate an environment where innovation flourishes, with office-based teams coming together to collaborate and succeed.

Job Overview

Within the Layer-7 Security Software team, we are accountable for delivering key features in every PANOS release. Our code impacts multiple product lines within the organization and is essential for providing the highest revenue licenses available. Our core Application Identification and Content Inspection Engine operates across Hardware, Virtualized, Container, and Cloud-delivered firewalls. Any features requiring the inspection or extraction of layer-7 network payloads rely on our engine. We are also advancing the latest Cloud-delivered Layer-7 security infrastructure. We design and implement innovative security features, including the industry's first Machine Learning powered NGFW, Credential Phishing prevention, URL-filtering, Cloud-delivered Data Leak Protection (DLP), and many more exciting innovations.

Are you ready to tackle a range of complex challenges across network, firewall, and Cloud platforms alongside a team of experienced software engineers? Are you enthusiastic about innovating in the latest security platforms and delivery technologies? Would you like to be part of a dynamic team that executes and delivers cutting-edge features akin to a start-up, but with the backing of a leading security organization?

We are looking for innovators—engineers who aspire to design groundbreaking products that do not yet exist. These engineers have a passion for coding and a drive to create global products, bringing fresh ideas to address real-world security challenges. We seek leaders who take ownership of their responsibilities and are motivated to tackle problems at every level. Collaboration is central to our culture, and we need engineers who can communicate effectively and work well with cross-functional teams to achieve shared objectives.

Your Contributions

  • Innovate, design, develop, and enhance the Next-Generation Firewall regarding functionality and performance, focusing on GlobalProtect.
  • Take ownership of critical components within the Next-Generation Firewall system.
  • Deliver high-quality features and enhancements in essential components.
  • As an expert in networking and security, collaborate closely with team members and across teams to architect innovative solutions.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience; a graduate degree (MS or Ph.D.) in Computer Science or a similar technical discipline is preferred.
  • Proficient in C programming within a Linux development environment.
  • Experience with multi-threaded programming and designing large-scale, distributed, and/or high-performance software.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for collaboration with multi-functional groups.
  • A proactive teammate who embraces a dynamic work environment and is eager to learn new technologies and platforms.

Your Expertise

  • Experience in HTTP and web server backend development.
  • Experience in networking development, such as TCP/UDP and Socket programming.
  • Familiarity with Redis, SQL, or NoSQL databases.
  • Experience with Go programming.

The Team

You will be part of a premier cybersecurity organization, collaborating with some of the brightest minds in technology. Our team is not afraid to confront significant challenges. You will assist in building and supporting the tools and infrastructure that enable our developers to deliver the products our customers rely on to defend against cyber threats. Joining this dynamic and fast-paced team will provide you with the opportunity to resolve technical and process gaps that hinder productivity.

Our Commitment

We are pioneers who dream big, take risks, and challenge the status quo in cybersecurity. We understand that we cannot fulfill our mission without diverse teams innovating together.

We are dedicated to providing reasonable accommodations for all qualified individuals with disabilities. Palo Alto Networks is an equal opportunity employer, celebrating diversity in our workplace. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, ancestry, color, family or medical care leave, gender identity or expression, genetic information, marital status, medical condition, national origin, physical or mental disability, political affiliation, protected veteran status, race, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, or other legally protected characteristics.

All information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.

The compensation for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. The starting base salary for candidates who receive an offer at the posted level is expected to range from $144,200 to $233,200 annually. Offered compensation may also include restricted stock units and a bonus. A description of our employee benefits is available.
