Patient Care Associate Float Pool Per Diem

A Patient Care Associate has accountability for providing care to patients in an ambulatory clinic setting. This role involves caring for patients with acute and chronic needs, requiring a high level of compassion, empathy, and technical skills.
Key Responsibilities:
• Responds to patient care needs by answering call lights, assisting patients with hygiene care, obtaining vital signs, and communicating effectively with the care team.
• Performs 12-lead EKG duties commensurate with the level of training received and competency.
• Applies, checks, and documents restraints as directed by the RN or physician.
• Performs wound care, stoma care, and specimen collection.
• Assists with patient transfers, admissions, and discharges as directed and in compliance with safe patient handling principles.
• Orders and maintains office and patient care floor stock/supplies.
• Performs the duties of unit secretary, including maintaining patient charts, responding to phone calls, and providing accurate information about the patient to the interdisciplinary team.
Requirements:
• Successful completion of an accredited nursing assistant training program.
• Certification as a Nursing Assistant (CNA) in the state of practice.
• Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or obtained within 60 days of hire with prior approval.
Work Environment:
This role is part of the internal float pool at St. Vincent's, which covers short-term and long-term needs within the organization. The float pool is designed to develop associates into a versatile group of staff that have the skill set to fill in on numerous units as needed. The department covers a variety of departments, including medical/surgical, orthopedics, oncology, and observation, and provides flexibility with scheduling and continuous growth opportunities in multiple areas of the nursing field.
Physical Requirements:
This role requires ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies. Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately. Manual dexterity of hands and fingers is required to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. The role also involves lifting and utilizing full range of movement to transfer patients, bending to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment, and walking and assisting with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment.
