Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team at Tucson Medical Center. As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will utilize high-frequency sound waves and specialized equipment to produce images of the inner human body for the identification and diagnosis of abnormalities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Utilize high-frequency sound waves and specialized equipment to produce images of the inner human body for the identification and diagnosis of abnormalities.
  • Assist physicians in procedures such as needle biopsies and fluid drainages, suggesting angles for puncture and maintaining sterile techniques.
  • Perform all ultrasound techniques and examinations, including abdominal scans, retro-peritoneal scans, limited obstetric, gynecological scans, and surgical ultrasound procedures.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment and probes after each patient, adhering to safety, environmental, and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Explain procedures, answer patient questions, and address concerns.
  • Assist medical staff during special procedures and obtain patient history, answers patient questions, and explains procedures.
  • Maintain records of examination data and other pertinent information on patients.
  • Maintain sonographic and other equipment in efficient operating order and assist with preventative maintenance.
  • Perform advanced tests with portable equipment in patients' rooms when necessary.
  • Position patients and operate equipment to produce the most reliable and informational data.
  • Clean instruments on fixed and movable equipment associated with surgical sonography activities.
  • Operate specialized equipment to calibrate and record test results, prepare room and equipment for patient, and instruct hospital personnel and students on examination procedures.
Requirements
  • Associate's degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school providing a sonography program.
  • Six months to one year of diagnostic medical sonography experience preferably in an acute care setting.
  • General Ultrasound Sonographers and OB Sonographers are required to obtain American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) within eighteen (18) months of hire date.
  • Vascular Sonographers are required to obtain ARDMS or Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within eighteen (18) months of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of sonography best practices and procedures.
  • Skill in performing ultrasound techniques and examinations, and evaluating scans.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to complete routine reports and correspondence, and ability to listen and accurately interpret others' communication or instructions to take appropriate action.
