The Child Welfare Intake Coordinator serves as an entry-level role within the Child Abuse Hotline framework. This position is critical in a crisis-oriented call center environment, where the individual will develop the necessary skills to conduct thorough investigatory intakes regarding reported child abuse and neglect. The role focuses on assessing situations to ensure immediate action is taken to safeguard children and address risk factors.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and process referrals concerning alleged child abuse and neglect from various sources, including the general public and community partners such as law enforcement and healthcare professionals.
- Conduct comprehensive phone interviews to gather information on child safety and risk, utilizing effective questioning techniques to assess vulnerabilities and protective factors.
- Demonstrate active listening and effective communication skills, maintaining a customer-focused approach during sensitive interactions.
- Document all information accurately in the electronic intake system, ensuring that all reported concerns are clearly recorded.
- Manage multiple referral sources, including phone calls and online submissions, while maintaining a high level of organization.
- Understand the child abuse reporting process and case assignment protocols within the organization.
- Utilize historical data from the electronic intake database to investigate prior involvement with families, ensuring thoroughness in each case.
- Review and interpret policies and procedures to make informed preliminary screening decisions.
- Complete mandatory training programs and stay updated on policy changes and state mandates.
- Participate in required overtime shifts to ensure adequate coverage for the 24/7 hotline.
Qualifications
Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field. Additionally, candidates must successfully pass a fingerprint background check and demonstrate the ability to work flexible hours, including nights and weekends.
